Measurement series and their properties

Create a series for each kind of reading, with a clear name, type and unit.

What you need

A monitor you can edit and room for another series in your account.

How to do it

  1. Open the monitor's Series tab and add a series.
  2. Choose a current value, cumulative counter, yes/no value or named state. Set the unit and expected reporting interval.
  3. Add a short description and useful labels, such as a network interface. Connect the sender and check its first value.

Good to know

The API types are gauge, counter, boolean and enum. Different label combinations create separate series and use additional slots. Numerical readings must be at least one second apart. One reading per second uses 86,400 points per series in 24 hours; account limits still apply.

On the monitor overview choose Automatic for condensed history, Original values for individual saved readings, or Live for new readings in a five- or ten-minute window. Original values keep a fixed period until you select Refresh. Pause live freezes the view; Resume reloads readings saved in the meantime. Large original-value periods link to the complete paginated history. These choices do not change collection intervals. For eligible agent parameters set the interval separately under Collection. One-second collection requires a current agent and service activation; expensive checks keep their own minimum. Create a new series if its meaning or type changes. Archiving stops new readings while history retains its usual retention period.

If something goes wrong

If automatic registration reports a conflict, compare the existing name, labels, type and unit with your sender's settings.
