Measurements, counters and summaries
Use current measurements or running counters and understand chart summaries.

What you need
A numerical series with a known unit.
How to do it
- Choose Gauge for a changing value such as temperature, or Counter for a running total such as bytes transferred.
- Send readings with their actual measurement times. Numerical readings in the same series need at least one second between them.
- Open history and choose original values or an available summary resolution. Check whether the chart shows a mean, minimum, maximum, last value or counter rate.
Good to know
Summaries combine readings in a time interval. Means are weighted by the number of original readings, so a lightly sampled interval does not count as much as a heavily sampled one.
Counter resets are handled separately from increases. Missing readings remain gaps; they do not become zeros.
If something goes wrong
For an unexpected spike or rate, check the clock, unit and original readings before changing chart settings.
