Numeric thresholds and hysteresis

Use different alarm and recovery thresholds to avoid repeated messages around a limit.

What you need

A numerical series with current values and a notification destination.

How to do it

  1. Choose the series and a comparison such as above, below, inside or outside a range.
  2. Set separate alarm and recovery thresholds. For example, alert above 90% and recover below 85%.
  3. Choose the latest value or an average, minimum or maximum over a window. Set the required duration and destination.

Good to know

The gap between thresholds is called hysteresis. A minimum duration ignores short spikes. Windows range from 10 to 900 seconds and must cover at least two expected reporting intervals.

Missing or stale readings cannot confirm a lasting condition. Late historical values can update history without sending an old alarm.

If something goes wrong

Check current values, the reporting interval and window size if a rule remains pending. Use a missing-data rule to detect gaps.
